So then comes the question: Do you want American made tuners, or does it matter? Go figure! Buy American I have Waverly's on my new Poe and I have to say I like them better than the other tuners on my other mandolin but are they 10 times better? I don't think so. Since they are nearly 10 times more expensive than the other brands I don't think I would have uprgaded to them had I a choice but since they are standard on Poe mandolins and not an option, I'll take em'. They do look really nice and if you offset the weight with a heavy James tail peice, the balance isn't too bad.
Not to mention they will help the resale on your mandolin if you ever decide to sell. To me there is no comparison, I much preferred the Waverleys. My current mando has Waverleys and it feels so good to use them again. You definitely will not be disappointed and if you get them you are forever spoiled when it comes to other tuners. Medic, I sort of hear you, but the marvelous, expensive mandolin mentioned several times in this thread is not American made.
I do not care where a product is made, and to me, "buy American" is past history. It's a global economy now and Americans benefit by commercial activity in the States regardless of where the products are made. FWIW, I don't think laborers are "worth" what they make but the companies are paying it, so it is what it is.
Then you start digging and the deeper you go, the more there is. Once you understand it, it's more like plumbing! Sep, am Waverly machines are standard on most of my instruments because in my opinion they are superior hardware. There are other good alternatives, many are a better bang for the buck but I have yet to encounter better hardware. Now, if you want to spend more money you can try Rogers machines from England. They can be 2 or 3 times what Waverlys cost.

Buttons are seamed I guess that's desirable! I don't know when they are from, but based on research probably 50ss, and I don't know if they go with any specific guitar brand or type. The Gotoh's are a bit different than yours as I replaced the Phillips head screws with slot head screws.
